Is it legal for a parent to smack children, leave them alone in the house, or take them out of school for a family holiday? Such questions relating to parenting and family life are addressed in a new guide to the law in Scotland, launched this week by the Rt Hon Jim Wallace QC MSP, deputy first minister and minister for justice, before the annual general meeting of the Scottish Parenting Forum. The guide, Is it legal? A parents' guide to the law in Scotland, costs 2 for Forum members or 2.50 for organisations, or is free to parents, on 0131 222 2429.
