In brief...Kirktonholme Nursery

Kirktonholme Nursery in East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire, has won a Pounds100 prize from Nursery World Scotland for raising more money than any other Scottish Independent Nurseries Association member for children suttering from the genetic skin condition epidermolysis bullosa (EB). They are sometimes referred to as the cotton-wool children because their skin blisters if knocked or rubbed. The nursery raised more than Pounds2000 by taking part in a sponsored walk with other SINA nurseries and organising a family fun day with a tombola and barbecue. The money will go to the Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa Research Association (Debra), the charity which SINA members have joined forces 10 support since 1999.

Owner Charlotte Kelly said, 'The staff really threw themselves into fundraising, and since then we have gone on to raise almost Pounds1,000 for kidney dialysis and a sensory garden at the nursery.' Kirktonholme Nursery is due to be presented with its prize at Scotland's first-ever Early Years and Primary Teaching Exhibition in Glasgow tomorrow (Friday 14 September), and a full report will be included in the exhibition coverage.
