In brief...MMR vaccination

Take-up of the MMR vaccination in children aged under two has dropped by 3 per cent over the past three months, the Scottish Executive revealed last week. Scotland's chief medical officer, Dr Mac Armstrong, urged Scots parents to consider the threat to child health posed by mumps, measles and rubella, as 13 per cent of two-year-olds are now not protected against these diseases. He said, 'My message to those parents who chose not to take up the MMR vaccination is simple - it's not too late.' The Scottish Executive will distribute new information packs on MMR to family health professionals across Scotland this month and has set up an expert group to explore the issues.
