In brief...Unions are in negotiation with Nottingham City Council to agree a pay deal

Unions are in negotiation with Nottingham City Council to agree a pay deal similar to the one signed earlier this year with neighbouring Nottinghamshire County Council (Special report, 28 June 2001). A proposal put together by the city council a month ago is being discussed. In Nottinghamshire the agreement on pay and status is expected to be implemented at the end of the autumn term. Unison local branch co-ordinator Mike Scott said, 'Information on the new pay scales and guidance has been sent to every school in the county.' Once each set of governors had rubber-stamped their approval the pay deal would be back-dated to 1 September, he said.
