Speaking at I CAN's conference in London last week, children's minister Beverley Hughes said that up to 200 Sure Start children's centres were expected to participate. She cited the South Acton Children's Centre in west London as an example of how the programme can be used to promote multi- agency working.
'The centre now provides daily support for ten children with severe language disabilities,' she said. 'It is also raising the capacity of staff to develop the communication abilities of all children and extend this expertise to other centres across Ealing. It highlights how the best of the PVI sectors can be brought together.'
