Integrated service delivery

Proposals to establish an overarching early years strategy to underpin more integrated service delivery and build closer links between health, education and social work were outlined in a letter sent out to local authorities and childcare partnerships by the Scottish Executive last month. The letter says, 'Examples of integrated care and learning services could include family resource centres providing childcare, pre-school education, wraparound care, out-of-school care and Sure Start services to families and children. Other approaches might be the provision of such services based around New Community Schools, and the development of extended services for childcare and wraparound care, complementing pre-school education and supporting vulnerable children.' A draft strategy document will be issued this spring for consultation. The Scottish Executive is also in the process of commissioning research to establish the impact of existing early years policy in Scotland.
