International delegates come to play

* The importance of play for young children was the focus of an international conference held in Northern Ireland as part of National Childcare Month. The conference, 'Change, Challenge and Creativity', took place in Templepatrick, Co Antrim, and was organised by NIPPA: The Early Years Organisation, the largest voluntary group working with children aged nought to 12 and their families in the Province.

Around 400 delegates from across the UK and Ireland heard Dr Sue Bredekamp, director of research at the Council for Early Childhood Professional Recognition in Washington DC, speak on the developmentally-appropriate curriculum for young children. Architect Mark Dudek also hosted four seminars for 500 early years specialists and local architects on the importance of appropriate buildings for children and families.
