Something to talk about

Communication is important to everyone, and it is never too early to master the principles of effective conversation - especially when there are some fun ways of doing it. You can demonstrate the do's and don'ts to children through practical experiences. Split the group into pairs and number the children one and two.

To demonstrate the importance of eye contact, ask the children identified as number one to maintain a one-minute conversation with their partner, who can answer the speaker, but must not look directly at them. This activity even challenges adults - the speaker often misses the eye contact so much that they stop talking long before the minute is up.
