Lack of progress on child poverty

Liberal Democrats have criticised the Government for its lack of progress on child poverty, claiming that more working families are in poverty today than when Labour came to power in 1997.

Jenny Willott, the Liberal Democrats' shadow work and pensionssecretary, said, 'Labour has neglected families who are trying to worktheir way out of poverty. The tax system is totally unfair. Hard-workingfamilies on low incomes should be paying less tax and keeping more oftheir hard-earned cash.'
