Work-based training: NVQs
Although training is important, there is no substitute for practical experience, and an NVQ will enable you to train on the job. NVQ stands for National Vocational Qualification. They were designed for people in the workplace who have little or no formal training, but wish to use their experience to gain a nationally recognised and respected qualification. You do not require any formal qualifications to start an NVQ, but you do need to have a job in childcare. The NVQ is a particularly flexible option, as you can take it at your own pace, and in many cases, start it whenever you choose.
