Leave minders be

I'm a working mother, who is also a qualified nursery nurse, and a tutor and assessor in early years childcare and education, teaching Level 2 and 3 students. I use the services of a fantastic registered childminder, and I have peace of mind knowing that my child is in a loving, caring and secure environment. My son has a wonderful relationship with his childminder and I could not ask for anyone better. He has the same level of consistency of care from the childminder that he receives from me.

I constantly stress to my students the importance of protecting children, but I do not believe that the Ofsted chief inspector, David Bell, will be maintaining the safety of children and childminders in England if the childminders' personal details are posted on the Ofsted website ('Data control', 29 May).

Did he not read the newspapers earlier this year of how a couple pretended to be health carers and gained access to a parent's home and abused her child? Mr Bell would be giving people who wish to harm children access to abuse them. What he is proposing would be disastrous. It would leave many parents without registered childminders. I know for a fact that my childminder would rather be unregistered than have her personal details posted on the internet.
