Lunchbox alert

Parents have been urged not to put ham and other processed meats in their children's lunchboxes because it increases their risk of developing cancer later in life.

The World Cancer Research Fund recommends that parents avoid givingchildren sandwich fillers such as ham and salami and switch to fillingssuch as poultry, fish, low-fat cheese or hummus. It points out thatscientists have only recently found a link between processed meats andbowel cancer in adults, estimating that around 3,700 bowel cancer casescould be prevented if everyone ate less than 70g of processed meat aweek.
