Marvin the friendly monster is back

Marvin the friendly monster is back again to help Meningitis Research Foundation with its latest fundraising campaign. For the second year running, day nurseries, pre-schools and playgroups and schools throughout the UK and Republic of Ireland are being encouraged to Make Music with Marvin during April and May. Children can be sponsored to make their own musical instruments out of plastic bottles, cans and other everyday objects, and hold a concert for parents. Foundation spokeswoman Julia Warren said, 'Last year, the campaign was so successful than children even dressed up as Marvin. More than 300 nurseries took part in the campaign and we raised 50,000.' The charity has a free resource pack for early years settings with ideas on how to make musical instruments, a special 'Marvin' song, and stickers, balloons and banners. To help parents and carers recognise the symptoms of meningitis and septicaemia, the Foundation has produced Tot Watch, which is included in the Make Music with Marvin pack. Both Tot Watch and Make Music with Marvin resource packs are available from the Foundation by telephoning 01454 281 814 or e-mailing saraparish@meningitis.org.
