This book focuses on the wide range of basic principles and skills involved in the art of counselling. The need for all staff to clearly understand their part in the process forms the framework for this book. It is clearly written and logical in format, enabling the reader to either absorb it cover to cover, or dip in as a reference book. The index is particularly helpful.

Each chapter fully discusses an aspect of counselling in various contexts, enabling the reader to identify a circumstance or situation that they too might face and the appropriate way to manage the process. It does not assume that every situation will run smoothly, and offers alternative handling of interviews and communications. But the main thrust of the text is best practice, which it explains with clarity and sensitivity.
