MD quits as profits and morale slump

Nord Anglia's divisional managing director, Tracey Storey, has resigned amid reports of poor financial performance and falling morale at the UK's largest nursery chain. News of Storey's departure came only three weeks after Nord Anglia's board confirmed that the company was selling off its Cheadle headquarters and transferring operations to the group's nurseries division headquarters in Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire, at the end of the year. Up to 100 central office staff face uncertainty over their jobs.

The closure of the 2.7m freehold site is aimed at eliminating 'the duplication and overlap of head office responsibilities'. But the sale of the building will also help to reduce the 47.2m debt the group has incurred since the acquisition of Jigsaw, Leapfrog and Princess Christian nurseries.

The group said it was also 'making progress' in plans to dispose of non-core nurseries, with 13 settings worth up to 2.5m identified for sale.
