A seven-year-old boy from London used pedal power to raise more than 50,000 to help survivors of the Haiti earthquake, said Sky News. Charlie Simpson of Fulham cycled five miles around his local park aiming to raise 500 for Unicef's appeal. As news of his challenge spread on the internet, pledges flooded in to his JustGiving page.

Government workers in South Korea were ordered to go home early toencourage them to conceive more babies, reported the BBC. The Ministryof Health turned off the lights in its office to persuade staff to gohome and increase the country's low birth rate.
