Nanny knows best

As a qualified nanny with more than ten years' experience, I was angered by the letter 'All childcarers need to be checked' (29 January). Although I agree with most of what was said about having checks, why should qualified nannies, after two years in college, have to go on to do a six-week childminding course? This is a course anyone can do, even someone with no childcare experience. After six weeks they think they know as much as someone with two years of training.

If anything should be looked at, it's the six-week childminding course - not nannies.
