New course aims to boost relationships

Management Careers & Training
How does adult behaviour shape the brains of children? A one day training course - Relationships build brains - aims to address this in detail, exploring ways in which practitioners can address stress and problems around attachment in young children.

The last training event held in September, was attended by a mix of professionals working across special schools, family learning and children’s centres.

Alexandra Phillips, early years placement officer for Bristol City Council, reports that the course was extremely useful to her work in placing high-level-need children with childminders.

‘It was very useful to think in depth about attachment, as in the case of many of our children this has been disrupted,’ she says.  ‘Kate Cairns (pictured), who delivered the training, is very in tune with this as she has fostered children. She impressed on us how resilient children can be if the right circumstances are provided, and it is possible for them to catch up with what they have missed out on.’
