New guidance for practitioners in Scottish booklets

Early years practitioners can draw on two new publications from Learning and Teaching Scotland for help in working with parents and supporting children's development. Supporting Development and Learning 3 to 5 focuses on the child's personal, social and emotional development and advises educators to adjust the atmosphere, rhythm and day-to-day practice of their centre as necessary for children at different stages. Working with Parents: A Shared Understanding of the Curriculum 3 to 5 explores how staff in early years settings can facilitate communication and contact with parents, based on a shared understanding of the principles of the Curriculum Framework 3 to 5 document. It stresses that children's learning and parents' role in it cannot be seen in isolation from the wider, constantly changing needs of families and the communities in which they live.
