New nurseries to meet local needs

A disused fire station and a former care home are among the premises being redeveloped as neighbourhood nurseries with the help of more than 900,000 awarded by the New Opportunities Fund last week. Tiny Teddies in Radford, Coventry, will be a new 70-place nursery based in a converted fire station. The building will feature large light-filled spaces, an outdoor sensory area and flexible floor space allowing facilities to expand to accommodate older children. It will offer 12 places for babies aged six weeks to one year.

Michelle Ingram, co-owner and manager of Tiny Teddies, said, 'Our own experience of accessing childcare in Radford, where there is very little existing provision, motivated us to push ahead with the nursery. We hope to contribute to the regeneration of this area as well as providing a valuable community resource.'
