- Fun of the Fair

Staff at Busy Bees nursery in St Albans, Hertfordshire, transformed thenursery grounds into a mini funfair for the day. Children, parents andmembers of the public were invited to join in with the festivities,which included fairground rides, a circus workshop and a football andmulti-skills session.

- Flying high

Child First nursery in Bicester, Oxfordshire, was visited by theShenington Gliding Club to enhance its transport topic. The childrenwere able to sit inside a glider on the ground. For their topic thechildren have also had visits from stretch limousines, sports cars,motorbikes and a police car.

- Garden Makeover

Children at Little Learners at Derby College in Mackworth were delightedwith their new nursery garden after horticultural students from thecollege transformed their outdoor space into an eco-friendly garden. Thestudents created a vegetable plot and sensory area for the children andincluded bird boxes and a mini-beast and insect area within the newgarden.

- Siren call

Children from Cuddles Day Nursery in Poole, Dorset, invited the localfire brigade to visit the nursery and let the children play on the pumpand try on their uniforms. Nursery manager Sophie Kelsey said, 'A greattime was had by all, though many jumped when the fire engine siren wassounded.'

- Well Travelled bear

Kinder Haven Nursery in Bradford, West Yorkshire, reports that itsmascot Cody the teddy bear, whom the children can take home with themand on day trips, went astray on one of his adventures last month. Afterdiscovering Cody was missing, manager Ann-Louise Epton searched on eBayfor a lookalike, where she found one seller had the same bear in stock -and let the nursery have the bear for free. The new Cody is now on hisway to nursery and children may find that he is remarkably cleaner.

Children at Blue House Day Nursery and Pre-School in Croydon, Surrey,made a model of the Taj Mahal as part of their first cultural daylearning about India. Nursery staff dressed in traditional Indianoutfits while the children tasted typical Indian dishes and listened toIndian music. The setting has introduced monthly cultural days tobroaden the children's horizons on the world and teach them aboutcultural diversity.
