Nurseries are on the ball

A football coach with his own academy has got children from nearly 30 nurseries having a kickabout.

Nurseries in Wigan, Manchester and Liverpool are signing up for sessionsled by Proscore Academy, set up by Wigan football coach Chris Parr.

Mr Parr established the academy two years ago after completing a degreein coaching and physical education.

'I spent time in America during my degree and I worked with childrenstarting from a very young age. It's a niche in the market over here,'he said. 'I widened my services to Sure Start last year. Obviously, thecoaching is very specialised with this age group. We put the focus onthe fundamentals of movement, co-ordination and balance.

'The Coaches Association in the UK tend to see it as babysitting, but Isee it as much more than that. I'm coaching three- and four-year-oldswho can kick the ball harder than seven-year-olds! In the Liverpool areaI have about ten four-year-olds who I'd classify as outstanding.'
