Nursery chain's new name reinforces ethics

The nursery group Imagine Co-operative Childcare is changing its name to The Co-operative Childcare to reinforce its commitment to the co-operative movement and its ethics and values.

Over the next two months the chain's six nurseries in Gloucestershire, Wiltshire and Oxfordshire, part of the Midcounties Co-operative region, will be re-branded to bring them completely under the Co-operative umbrella.

As a co-operative, the group of nurseries are owned by their parent members and the company re-invests profits into the nursery businesses and into supporting local projects.

For every £1 parents spend on childcare fees they receive a penny - or 1 per cent - back, paid as a dividend twice a year.

Currently Imagine has more than 600 children registered at its six nurseries.

The childcare rebrand started with the opening of the new £1m nursery in Blackbird Leys, Oxford, last month by BBC children's TV presenter Barney Harwood. The nursery received 'outstanding' from Ofsted in the summer.

The nursery was previously run by Imagine on the Oxford and Cherwell Valley College Blackbird Leys campus but had to find a new home after the college opted to sell the land for housing as part of the college's re-development plans.
