Nursery grant hits 200m mark for capital

* A grant awarded to Lea View Community Nursery brought the Charities Board in London up to its 200m milestone, last week. The Hackney nursery was awarded more than 65,000, bringing the total amount spent across the capital to 200,550,267 since the London region of the National Lotteries Charities Board (NLCB) was set up in October 1995.

The Hackney nursery was awarded more than 65,000, bringing the total amount spent across the capital to 200,550,267 since the London region of the National Lotteries Charities Board (NLCB) was set up in October 1995.

The grant will enable the nursery, which cares for 26 children aged from six months to five years, to keep on two part-time special needs workers.

The nursery's deputy co-ordinator Avis Toussaint said, 'Having the extra support of special needs workers really brings the children along. It improves literacy and numeracy, builds confidence and gives them a solid grounding for primary school.'

Anne Page, chair of the NLCB London, regional awards committee, said, 'We're delighted to reach our 200m milestone by making this award to Lea View Community Nursery. The nursery enables lone parents and low income families to work or go to college.'
