Nursery owner to face court

The former owner of a nursery where a baby died in 2005 has been charged with two health and safety offences over the death.

Rosemarie Meadowes ran Tiddlywinks Nursery in Gloucester, where16-month-old Molly Cunliffe died after choking on a cloth bag tied toher cot in October 2005. An inquest into Molly's death in July 2007found she had been unlawfully killed.

Gloucester City Council has served summonses on Ms Meadowes on twocharges under the Health and Safety at Work Act. The first is forfailing to ensure that persons not in her employment, in particularbabies and toddlers, were not exposed to risks to their health andsafety. The second is for failing to make a suitable and sufficientassessment of the risks to the health and safety of babies andtoddlers.
