A baby who attended Cherrywood Nursery, part of the Cherry Childcaregroup of nurseries, was admitted to hospital while the other childrenare being treated at home.
The Health Protection Agency urged all parents with children over theage of six months to have them immunised. Dr Peter English, consultantin Communicable Disease Control at the HPA, said, 'Over the last fewyears we have seen an unprecedented increase in measles cases nationallydue to relatively low MMR vaccine uptake over the past decade. Thismeans there is now a large number of children who are not fullyvaccinated with MMR, allowing measles to spread easily amongunvaccinated children.'
A study published in The Lancet last week showed that the UK is one ofthe five worst countries in Europe for measles. It said that tosuccessfully eliminate measles, 95 per cent of a population needs to bevaccinated with two doses.
