Nursery World Conference: All things considered

The early years workforce were out in strength last week to discuss how they will be delivering the EYFS. Ruth Thomson heard the speakers.

Features of the new Ofsted inspection regime, with its emphasis on self-evaluation, were unveiled at Nursery World's sell-out conference, 'EYFS: Effective Preparation and Implementation', in Birmingham last week.

Ofsted is aligning its inspection frameworks in readiness for the introduction of the EYFS this September - 'to ensure a consistent approach to evaluating and reporting on early years provision across settings and schools,' as Ofsted's director for children, Michael Hart, explained. He told the 450 delegates that 'as now, the onus will be on providers to demonstrate compliance with requirements and the effectiveness of the provision', but there will be a greater focus on self-evaluation.
