Ofsted chair moves on

Chair of Ofsted, Zenna Atkins, has resigned to become chief executive of independent schools operator GEMS Education, where from 1 September she will be driving the Government's free schools agenda.

She will be in charge of the UK, Europe and African business.

Ms Atkins said, 'I took up the role as the first chair of Ofsted four years ago and it has been a hugely enjoyable experience. I am now ready for a new challenge and the free schools agenda, in particular is one that erally excites me. I feel there is a new opportunity to do something genuinely different on the frontline of education and bring a 21st century learning environment into the UK.'
