Ofsted in consultation

Ofsted has launched a consultation on its proposals for inspecting children's centres.

A bill currently passing through parliament, called the Apprenticeship,Skills, Children and Learning Bill, will give Ofsted the legal duty toinspect and report on the effectiveness of children's centres. Atpresent, Ofsted does not have this legal power, but it does have dutiesto inspect on some of the services that centres provide.

A full programme of inspections is expected to begin in 2010 and Ofstedsays it will consider the responses received from the consultation.Download the consultation document at www.ofsted.gov.uk. The closingdate is 18 September.
