Ombudsman for Children

The first-ever Ombudsman for Children in the Republic of Ireland has been named as Emily Logan, currently director of nursing at the Adelaide and Meath Hospital in Tallaght. She was previously director of nursing at Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children in Crumlin and directorate manager at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London. Brian Lenihan, minister for children, said, 'She will make an excellent ombudsman, bringing a great level of commitment, experience and energy to this position.' Children and young people were involved in drafting the job specification for the ombudsman, and candidates were interviewed by a board of children and young people as well as by adults.
