Early years settings can choose their own sets of wheels - whether a scooter, buggy or trike - and hold events over several days or on one particular day during Big Zoom week from 13-19 June.
Oxfam hopes that its new annual event for under-fives, the first fundraising activity organised by the charity specifically aimed at toddlers and nurseries, will raise £1m over the next five years.
A free resource pack with activities linking the Big Zoom with themes and areas of learning in the EYFS will be sent to all settings registering to take part. The pack also includes stickers, certificates and sponsorship forms.
Oxfam says that £250 could pay for five bicycles for healthcare workers in Malawi, £199 could buy a waterpump for a school in Zambia, and £80 is enough money to buy a cow for a poor family.
Children from Oxfam's workplace nursery in Oxford were on track to raise more than £200. Manager Clair Taylor said, 'We invited the children to bring in their own bikes and scooters. We set up a track in our garden for them to wheel around. Parents really liked the idea and some of them came in to watch. The three- to five-year-olds raced each other, and the younger ones whizzed around or pushed buggies.'
Early years settings raising more than £250 from their Big Zoom event can enter a draw to win a Poddely medium playset worth £1,500, donated by playground equipment supplier Playforce, sponsors of the Big Zoom. The winner will be drawn on 14 July.
