One in three adults in England love their dogs more than their children

One in three adults in England love their dogs more than their children, according to a survey for the National Children's Bureau carried out by the British Market Research Bureau to mark the NCB's 40th birthday this month. The survey found that as children grew up they felt less welcome in public places, and teenagers were even less popular than children. Dr Nicola Madge, NCB assistant research director, said, 'Perhaps the strongest message arising from this is about the need for greater tolerance and understanding, which applies to everyone, whatever their age.' Adults need to value young people and contribute to making England as child-friendly as possible, while young people in turn need to do their best to ensure that it is adult-friendly too.' The survey of nearly 2,000 children and more than 500 adults was carried out to mark the NCB's 40th birthday this month.
