Overnight nursery heralds new trend

Apioneering 24-hour nursery launched last week aims to provide overnight care for the children of shiftworkers. Harlequin Nurseries' new venture in Glasgow is the only one of its kind known to Nursery World in Scotland, and is believed to be one of just two settings currently registered to offer overnight care in the whole of Britain.

Owner Angela Eakins said, 'Society isn't nine to five any longer. We have 24-hour call centres and a 24-hour Asda nearby. I did a survey and asked parents if they would use 24-hour childcare and one said it was a pity I hadn't started months ago, when her friend had to give up a job because she didn't have anybody to look after her child.'
