Overtime on the fingered fraudsters

Since my letter ('Help us to finger the tax fraudsters', 8 January) was published, the Inland Revenue has inundated me with forms requesting fee details of certain named parents. Is this a coincidence? As I am concerned at the possible fraudulent claims some parents might make, I am quite happy to comply with these requests. However, it seems the Inland Revenue has suddenly become aware of our existence and is pursuing our claimants vigorously to the extent that it is requesting the same information twice.

As I am concerned at the possible fraudulent claims some parents might make, I am quite happy to comply with these requests. However, it seems the Inland Revenue has suddenly become aware of our existence and is pursuing our claimants vigorously to the extent that it is requesting the same information twice.

Does this indicate that the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing? Or are there so few claimants to check that the Inland Revenue is looking into each case with a fine-tooth comb?

The inspectors are wasting my time and theirs - to say nothing about the postage and stationery costs. I am interested not only in stopping the fraudulent claims but also in stopping the waste of public money. Ours is a relatively small nursery but, if this is being repeated up and down the country, the wastage of man-hours alone must run into thousands of pounds a week.
