Parental support

Louisa Hale's letter (25 March) says that we striking nursery nurses were alienating parents. Yet strikers I have spoken to from other councils say that parents support us 100 per cent, even though they find the strike a great inconvenience. Parents and children have joined us on various marches and rallies, even in the worst weather. Some parents have also taken the time to organise fundraising events to help us, and we have been very grateful.

We have no alternative but to strike. We have not had a re-grade for 16 years and feel that national pay is a reasonable request. Why should a nursery nurse in Renfrewshire be paid differently to a nursery nurse in Argyll and Bute, Glasgow or Dundee? We do the same job and so should be paid the same.
