Parent's guide to tax credits

The Daycare Trust has published a guide to help parents get to grips with the new child tax credit, which could provide an extra Pounds 1,000 a year for families with a child aged under one. Families with household incomes under 58,000 a year are eligible to claim the tax credit, which is being introduced in April. Stephen Burke, Daycare Trust director, said, 'The new tax credits are great news for parents on lower incomes. They will extend the number of parents eligible to claim the childcare tax credit element of the Working Tax Credit, particularly those parents for whom childcare in their own home is the only viable option.'
