A parent at our nursery recently expressed a concern regarding a male member of staff changing their child's nappy. The concern was not a child protection issue, rather a cultural one. The setting now has a decision to make on whether male members of staff should be allowed to change that child's nappy.

In the interests of supporting diversity in relation to culture we would want to respect the parent's wishes. However, in terms of equal opportunities for staff, and equality in general, we would not want to restrict the working practices of any member of staff.

Is this a reasonable request from a concerned parent that the nursery should do their best to accommodate, or is it the beginning of restrictive practices for certain sections of the community?
