Partnerships look back and ahead

Childcare partnerships have played a key role in securing pre-school education places for children in Scotland, according to minister for education and young people Cathy Jamieson. Speaking at the conference, 'Childcare Partnerships: The Developing Role'

Speaking at the conference, 'Childcare Partnerships: The Developing Role'

in Bridge of Allan last week, Ms Jamieson revealed that 97 per cent of four- year-olds and 80 per cent of three-year-olds now have a pre-school education place.

'It is now three years since ministers first proposed that childcare partnerships be set up. Since then, hard work by everyone involved has achieved a tremendous expansion of services,' she said.

As part of the Childcare Strategy, local authorities were asked to assemble a local childcare partnership in their area to carry out an audit of provision. Representatives from a range of sectors and organisations also worked together to draw up plans for the integrated expansion of early education and childcare.
