Pilot schemes to introduce the teaching of foreign languages in primary schools

Pilot schemes to introduce the teaching of foreign languages in primary schools are proving such a success that the majority of pupils at the 1,400 primary schools in England that have introduced a foreign language are keen to continue the subject at secondary school, according to a Headspace survey of headteachers carried out by Education Guardian and EdComs. The Government plans to give all seven- to 11-year-olds the opportunity to learn at least one foreign language by 2010.
