Playgroup survival

Regarding the staff:child ratios for under-threes at playgroups in England (News, 9 January), I must point out that the majority of playgroups are non-profit-making charities. I run a playgroup and we always have at least one adult to six children aged two-and-a-half to five years. Although our fees are just 3.50 for a session, many of our parents struggle to meet these. We are also going through a very difficult time at present, as we will lose our premises in July.

But we are determined to carry on and will be relocating to our local community centre. Unfortunately, there is already a playgroup there, and there are concerns as to how two playgroups will run alongside each other in the same building (we will be using a large room and they use a big hall).
