Plea to baby bottle manufacturers

The National Childbirth Trust (NCT) is calling for companies who sell baby bottles in the UK to start producing bottles using non-bisphenol A (BPA) plastics.

Six manufacturers of the baby bottles in the US have decided to remove the bottles amid growing concern over evidence suggesting that the chemical can interfere with healthy growth and body functions. NCT chief executive Belinda Phipps said, 'The NCT would like to see the same steps being taken in the UK. There are now viable alternatives to BPA that can be used to produce clear plastic baby bottles.' The Food Standards Agency said that exposure levels to the chemical are well below what is considered harmful.
