Pre-booking by expectant parents leads to expansion

Pre-booking by expectant parents has prompted the Bambinos nursery chain to expand and add 30 more places to its nursery in Woolwell, Plymouth, which caters for 70 children. Husband and wife team Alison and Bill Lane started Bambinos in 1993 and now they have four day nurseries in the Plymouth area with an investment from Armada Finance, an independent provider of asset funding for business finance. The Lanes also invented the Core Basics record-keeping scheme to chart the progress of individual children. The system, commended by Ofsted, is used in childcare facilities throughout the UK to plan monthly activities to make the most of children's personal, social and intellectual development. The company, which employs more than 80 people, has been awarded Investors in People status in recognition of its in-house training for nursery nurses.
