Primary Steps moves up to tenth position

Creative Education, which trades under the brand name Primary Steps, revealed last week that it had bought the Head Start Nursery Group in a deal worth more than 1.5m. Meanwhile, Nord Anglia, the UK and Ireland's largest nursery chain, announcing its interim results for the six months to February, said that group turnover was up by 21.9 per cent to Pounds 55.5m, and operating profit to 2.12m, largely as a result of the acquisition of the Leapfrog and Jigsaw groups.

Primary Steps, which was set up in 2000, is now the tenth largest chain, with more than 1,900 places and 34 settings.

The acquisition of the five-strong Head Start group, with nurseries in the Milton Keynes area, adds almost 250 more places to the chain.

Primary Steps is also due to open a 32-place nursery at the Next Generation health and fitness club at Gidea Park in Romford next month.
