Projects threatened as funding dries up

The future of five innovative childcare projects piloted in the London borough of Camden hangs in the balance as funding from the European Social Fund (ESF) comes to an end. In May 2002, 11 pilot projects run by the Camden BetterCUP Partnership, a scheme that looks at new ways to support working parents by addressing childcare issues, were funded by a Pounds 1.3m grant from the EQUAL ESF programme, a European fund that aims to tackle discrimination against people accessing training or employment opportunities.

Five of the projects - the Children's Information Service's outreach work, Camden Refugee Network's childcare training, the Childcare Training Project, Emergency Childcare Cover and the Hostels Project - are now seeking funding from the London Central Learning and Skills Council to continue after the ESF funding ends on 31 October.
