Sunshine House provides health, education, social care and child andadolescent mental health services under one roof in the 8.5mcentre in Camberwell (Nursery World, 30 November 2006). The centre isthe result of a public-private partnership between Southwark PrimaryCare Trust and Building Better Health, Lambeth Southwark Lewisham. Morethan 12,000 children and families are set to benefit.
The centre features a gymnasium with a gait analysis system to helpchildren walk, a sensory room for those with visual or behaviouralproblems and an audiology suite for hearing tests.
It was designed by architects Allford Hall Monaghan Morris, who workedin consultation with parents and carers. The centre has been designed tobe welcoming and attractive to children. Its artwork includessculptures, word-art and brick designs by artists Jacqueline Ponceletand Milou von Ham, who were funded by the Guy's and St Thomas'Charity.
Melissa Mead, mother of three-year-old Abigail Bolt-Mead, who has motorneurone disease, said, 'It's great that everything is now under oneroof. It means we no longer have to travel around. It won't be sodaunting for Abigail.'
