Purchase doubles nursery chain's size

A 4m finance deal has enabled one small Berkshire nursery operator to more than double in size.

Complete Childcare, which previously ran three settings, has bought Kingsclere Nurseries, a seven-strong group, which also has nurseries across Berkshire.

The new combined group will offer around 600 childcare places.

The sale was brokered by corporate agent Christie & Co. It is part-funded by Downing VCT and is believed to be one of the largest venture capitalist deals made in the UK so far this year.

Phil Hennessy, finance director of the combined group, said the plan was to focus on nurseries of 50 to 100 places. 'We don't want to lose the home-from-home feel.'

He added, 'We have aspirations to grow again. We have a very positive relationship with our venture capitalist backers and our bank and they're keen to support growth, particularly high-quality freeholds in the home counties.'
