Quality Mark

More than 1,000 schools and employers in Wales have attained the Quality Mark set by the Basic Skills Agency. Introduced in 2001, the Quality Mark assures minimum standards in basic skills teaching, with the target of all basic skills programmes achieving the mark by 2004. The achievement was celebrated at a garden party in Newport on 6 June attended by the Princess Royal. Speaking in front of pupils from primary and secondary schools from across the region, Princess Anne, who is BSA patron, said, 'Gaining awards is never easy and I don't underestimate the hard work and commitment that you must have shown in order to achieve your basic skills awards.'
