Ready-made meals rejected

Proposals to serve ready-made meals in six Lancashire children's centres to 'secure best value' have been rejected by the council's executive board.

An unnamed spokesman from Bolton City Council told the local Bolton News last week that a catering company would be providing frozen nursery meals in children's centres from April. This has since been denied by the council, who claim the proposals were only part of a consultation.

The statement said, 'It is a fair and equitable solution to the provision of meals whereby all parents can expect the same nutritional quality for the same price. All the meals provided are nutritionally calculated to meet the legal guidance for the nutritional requirements of young children.'

Councillor Linda Thomas told the Bolton News, 'As an authority we have a duty to secure best value and must therefore consider all alternatives.'
