Providers should not worry about forthcoming Ofsted inspections, says Lynette Lee, National Day Nurseries Association training manager It is just over nine months since Ofsted took over responsibility for the inspection and regulation of early years care and education. This changeover has led to anxiety among some providers and a feeling of 'facing the unknown' as their Ofsted inspection approaches.

It is just over nine months since Ofsted took over responsibility for the inspection and regulation of early years care and education. This changeover has led to anxiety among some providers and a feeling of 'facing the unknown' as their Ofsted inspection approaches.

There have been long delays in response times in some areas of the country because a number of Ofsted regional centres have not been fully staffed - which has resulted in delays. Meanwhile, a perceived lack of activity from Ofsted out in the field has added to concern. This 'inactivity' is due to the volume of training that Ofsted inspection staff have been undergoing and also that Ofsted's priority has been to inspect childminders.
