Sainsbury's Baby Book award is Happy Dog, Sad Dog, written and illustrated by Sam Lloyd

The winner of this year's Sainsbury's Baby Book award is Happy Dog, Sad Dog, written and illustrated by Sam Lloyd. The 32-year-old author, who works as a volunteer on art projects at a Brighton school, was presented with a cheque for 2,000 and a trophy at London Zoo on 9 October. Wendy Cooling, chair of the judging panel, said, 'We loved this book for its simple use of text and fun illustrations.' The judges praised the book's creativity, which introduces the idea of opposites by using large, colourful illustrations of dogs. Other books shortlisted included Baby Activity Centre by Roger Priddy, That's Not My Bear by Fiona Watt, Baby Fun Five in the Bed by the Dorling Kindersley team, Goodnight Poppy Cat by Lara Jones and Baby Boo! by Amanda Wood and Fiona Macmillan.
